The COVID-19 pandemic shut down our office for three months from March 15-June 15 2020. During this time we were closely following updates from our regulatory body, College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). On May 22, 2020 the CDHO published a "living" document that listed guidelines that we at C.A.R.E. had to implement in order to safely reopen our doors. Just to list a few of the new guidelines, clients with appointments only now can enter the office and must wear a face covering. Clients will be screened for COVID-19 and will have their temperature taken at the front desk. Both of the treatment operatories now have floor-to-ceiling walls and doors. They both also have Air Purifiers with HEPA filters that run all the time. When the Hygienist is doing an aerosol generating procedure (Ultrasonic scaling, polish) an extraoral suction unit with a HEPA filter will be running and this unit captures 95% of airborne particles directly at the source. Both these units help to protect and keep our Hygienists as well as our clients safe and healthy.
Unfortunately this is not the first time the world has dealt with a virus or contagious disease that has affected the population so horribly and probably will not be the last. We at C.A.R.E. Dental Hygiene take the health and safety of our staff and clients very seriously and will continue to do so in the years to come. We are always available to speak with our clients and answer any questions they have regarding policies and procedures of the practice.
